Very good news this.
Wynn Resorts have announced that it is moving and expanding its poker room. The new room is expected to be some 8,600 square feet with 28 tables and will be on the Encore side of the resort. The current poker room, which will remain open until the new facility is ready in or about May 2016, is located on the Wynn side near the space formerly occupied by the old Ferrari dealership.
This will make the room about 2.5 times the size of the current facility which is a major improvement as one of my biggest objections to playing at Wynn is the size of the room.
A price for the renovation wasn’t disclosed but it has been announced that each table in the new poker room will have USB ports for electronic device charging which will bring it up to the standard of the Venetian. Wynn plans to place 35 televisions throughout the room to show live sporting events.
Apparently a sports book window will also be located inside the new room which echoes what I said about Vegas casino proprietors acknowledging that a poker room brings players onto the property who will spend their money elsewhere. The better the room the better (more wealthy) the players it attracts.
An added advantage will be that the new poker room will provide better access to the Wynn and Encore self-parking garages which will be only a short walk away. Let’s see whether they then bring in a parking charge like MGM.
This also bucks the trend of poker rooms in Las Vegas being reduced or closed.
To my knowledge Tropicana and The Linq on the Strip, Gold Coast, Plaza and Silverton further afield have closed their rooms over the last five years or so.
And, news today (18th February, 2016), that the Wynn is to construct a 75,000 square foot shopping mall on site. Is there money burning a hole in Steve Wynn’s pocket?
